When all is said and done which season 9 Idol will have actually won?
#880 - 1--ed--When all is said and done which season 9 Idol will have actually won?--2010-06-02 20:06:30
#I think there is no question whose I’ll buy but what about the general public. Whose music will you buy and pay to see?
- I have loved and bought many idol’s CDs. Some were great and some were OK. My favorites were
Kelly’s “Breakaway”, Carries “Some Hearts”, Diana’s “Blue Skies”, Daughtry’s “Daughtry”, David Cook’s “David Cook”, Clay’s “Merry Christmas With Love”, Jordin Sparks’ “Battlefield”, Tamyra’s “The Dreamer”, Kristy Lee Cook’s “Why Wait”, Allison’s “Just Like You” and Kat McPhee’s “Unbroken. I bought all of these. I didn’t download them illegally. I actually bought more but they weren’t on my favorites list. I know
KLC got a lot of grief but I suggest you check out her CD on YouTube. And
Allison has been the most stiffed of any Idol yet. I would rate her CD as top 2 or 3 of all time and no one bought it.
Kat McPhee’s latest is one of the best CDs ever not just Idol fair.
So If I am any indication, any Idol that wants to be successful would likely not want to be on my buy list. My very favorites are
“Breakaway”, “Unbroken”, “Just Like You”, Why Wait” and “Battlefield”. Of these four, only one has had any kind of success. I would at first thought it is my music taste but that’s not it at all. Today’s top 40 music is for the most part absolute crap. Listen to America’s top 40 and see. If it weren’t for
Daughtry, Carrie, Kelly, Jordin, Cook, Adam, and Kris on the radio I might hear one out of 50 songs worth listening to. In fact just the other day I listened to top 40 radio for about an hour. I heard
Kelly’s “All ever Wanted”, Daughtry’s “No Surprise”, Adam’s “What do You Want From Me”, Kris’s “
Heartless”, and
Jordin’s “Tattoo” in that hour or so. In that hour those were easily the best songs I heard aside from Michael Buble’s “I Just Haven’t Met You Yet”.
But now to the Idols at hand. So far only
Crystal and
Lee have deals. But even if they are the only ones to get deals from 19 E (I doubt it) at least five more from this season will record a CD somehow. So what about
Crystal and
Lee? Who will win the CD/download battle? I feel very confident in saying
Crystal will win that battle and with relative ease. I like
Lee but I think he will be the least successful winner of all time and he will need to go some to beat
Kris Allen’s paltry 300,000 in sales.
Crystal, like
Clay and
Adam before her, will out sell the winner. In fact this could be the worst season ever for CD sales period. Only a wild card can keep this from happening.
I will also make another (wild card) prediction, not that it means anything but words thrown on a page. I might also remind you my predictions of the following sort have a propensity of not happening. But here goes. I think the most successful in sales and in post Idol career will be this year’s 6
th place finisher
Siobhan. I can hear all the cat calls already. But this I know. Even though
Siobhan has not gotten a record deal yet she absolutely will. Will it be with 19E? I think so. I know this sounds so ridiculous on the surface but I have heard rumors of things I will not repeat (because they are rumors) but I feel they have some validity.
There is mounting evidence that
Siobhan should not have been eliminated that early. Here are a few examples. Even after her departure she continued to be the most searched Idol of the season. And while online buzz does not a success make, it sure says something. And something good. The Idol audience drtopped off over 2 million the week after she left and never really gained that audience totally back. If just half of those buy her CD it will be a record. Every week USA Today would have an entire section on the web (Idol Chatter). After
Siobhan got the boot Brian Mansfield, the proprietor of said section, decided that this season was too boring and decided to do his own version of Idol called Fantasy idol. Using the same contestants and letting the readers vote on their favorite week after week. Here’s the final. Check it out.
Fantasy Idol Final This is but one of many post idol wins for
Siobhan and it will not be the last. Another example of
Siobhan’s post Idol buzz is EW’s 8 part interview with her. The most ever for an Idol, not to mention the most entertaining and endearing. Here it is.
EW interview I have good friends who really don’t like her. Really don’t. They are also friends who have in the past liked the same folks I did. In fact a couple write for this site. They have not had any interest in listening to or watching anything
Siobhan since she left. I think that will eventually change. At least I hope so. I will certainly buy her CD. I will attend her Broadway shows. I will go to the theater and see her movies. I will buy her DVD’s. I will look forward to her every appearance. I would love to see her on Glee although there is a tweet by her stating she wouldn’t do that. Here’s hoping a big paycheck will change her mind.
I would like to know whose CD you will be buying. Take my poll to the right. I suspect no matter how hard they push this season, when it’s said and done, CD sales will be as lacking as the season was as a whole.
Is it Tuesday yet?
