#No new odds this week but I am back and have some stuff that might be interesting.
- I had to go to out of town and had zero internet access so I didn’t get to watch the show or write about it. I did eventually watch and was genuinely nonplused except for the duets. They were both really good. In fact for the first time since the top 12, I will be buying iTunes songs from someone other than
Siobhan. I am getting both tunes. But even though their duets were good, poor ol’
Lee just can’t seem to stay in tune all the way. And with that he brought
Crystal in to the out of tune zone a little. I will say
Crystal is so far above the rest in the competition it is pretty shameful. I also think
Crystal is better than we’ve seen her.
As for the movie tunes I would say
Crystal was the best but not by much and it’s not saying much to boot. I do know that if
Siobhan were here she would have won the night hands down. She would have sung “
Summertime” and a version not heard on this show. I will hit on some
Siobhan stuff at the end. But because you are the best it doesn’t mean you’ll win. I feel
Lee will win. It’s not because he’s this great singer, it’s because of his persona of the guy next door who we all feel hopeful for. He can sing but nothing we haven’t heard a million times and a million times better. If he does win, Idol will have another
Hicks on their hands except
Hicks could stay in tune and could entertain. And even though he could sing and stay in tune, it didn’t garner him much success at all.
Lee will, should he win, be the least successful of them all. I don’t see any of the top 5 making any real waves. I actually think
Didi will do better than anyone of the top five but
Crystal.
The last time we had two guys and one girl in the top 3……..
Taylor,
Kat and
Elliott. The last time we had a clear best singer in the top 3……season six. What happened on both occasions? The wrong person won. Not to say
Jordin hasn’t been a good winner or even not had some success, but
Melinda was the superior singer and performer. And anyone who thinks
Taylor is a better singer than
Kat get over it. So look for
Crystal to bow out next Wednesday. I think when this happens we will finally get the voting change we need to make this a real competition not a “who can out text the boppers” competition. This will go to why I think there are no conspiracies on Idol I’ll get to in another article.
And those who think Idol is finished, get rid of those thoughts. Even with its ratings slump, it is still the #1 program on TV. And even when Simon leaves, it will still be the #1 program on the tube. Idol put out a survey asking what they could do to improve the show. I filled mine out and so should you. They know something is wrong. But is it? Yes. Will they take our advice and run with it? You would hope.
Here are my I’ll bets from last week.
Songs of the cinema gives us the best night of the season.
Miss Casey brings out the electric guitar.
A mandolin ain’t quite electric in any domain. Miss. Crystal wins the night.
Hit Mike picks something from “The Wiz”.
Miss Lee sings
“Don’t Want to Miss a Thing”. Miss The duets will be
Lee and
Crystal and
Casey and
Mike. I don’t know how that
Casey /
Mike thing will go.
Hit Casey will go home this week. And he damn sure can’t complain.
Miss.
Didn’t do so well this week. Let’s see if I do better now that I’m feeling better about a
Siobhan less Idol. Not much but a little.
I’ll bet……
Crystal goes home this week in a
Melinda type shock. Her judge’s song pick will be “
Baby,
I’m Amazed” I’m not getting this pick.
Casey will have his best week of the series. His judge’s pick will be John Mayer’s “
Daughters”.
Lee will sing one of his three songs in tune and it won’t be the judge’s pick of “
Halleluiah”. And even the ones he doesn’t he will need to bring the towel after the tongue bath.
This will not be close to the best top three performances ever.
Casey could win the night singing “
Daughters” and “
Jealous Guy”.
Lee blows two of his songs and survives.
We see
Siobhan in the audience this week. Hell yeah!
