Who did Frankly well on Sinatra night. Top 5 go back in time.
#859 - 1--ed--Who did Frankly well on Sinatra night. Top 5 go back in time.--2010-05-04 22:38:48
#I watched very fast tonight. I do miss the days they sang two on top 5 night.
- As promised I watched the show without hearing any comment or prepackage stuff. This will be interesting to see if my judgments without prejudice are in line with anyone or everyone. I will say I thought as usual the song choice killed the contestants.
Lee or
Crystal should have sung “My Kind of Town”. Dude they’re both from Chicago.
Mike and
Aaron did pick good songs and oddly enough for me they were the best. Let’s see how I heard it.
Aaron: “Fly Me To the Moon”
When
Aaron started I thought this would be a train wreck. But he finally got it going and I think this was his best ever. He hit all the notes and busted some good high stuff too. I actually, for the first time ever liked
Aaron.
Grade A Casey: “Blue Skies”
What in the hell did he do with this arrangement. It just drug on. I guess when
Casey lays down the guitar he lays down the singing too. I thought this was easily his worst of the season and this could send him packing. He looked to me like he just wanted to hurry up, slowly, and get through this. There was no passion at all. Just that S... eating grin.
Grade D
Crystal: “Summer Wind”
I thought this might be a good fit for her but while the vocals were good and could have been great, they were below par for her. And I felt like she never got connected to the song at all. She looked very disinterested. It’s like she was channeling the Idolhead. I was finding myself, for the first time, feeling a little uncomfortable for her. She kept looking down at her feet or something. It looked liked she was being questioned by the police and I don't mean the band. She looked great but something was surely missing from our resident front runner tonight.
Grade B-
Mike: “The Way You Look Tonight”
I always remember this song as one Jasmine sang Season 3. Every time I hear it I think of Jasmine Trias. Was it that good? No. Great song choice for Mike. He did a very good job. I do think the arrangement could have had more pep but he did well. In fact I think I like this as his best for me. He wasn’t too theatric and that last note was golden. For me he was second best of the night.
Grade A-
Lee: “That’s Life”
Oh
Lee. You need to get some more life in your performances. This was plodding and he, like
Crystal, looked like he didn’t connect at all with the song. He did his usual pitch thing around the middle. I didn’t really like this much and should have. He did have some nice moments but not enough.
Lee T , phoned it Home.
Grade C
Siobhan Magnus: “My Way”
This was awesome. I know most of you didn’t catch this because your DVR’s cut off too soon. But it was pitch perfect and she commanded that stage. And that last “I did it MYYYYYYY Wayyyyyy” was the moment of the season. She showed her range and some vocal gymnastics that were phenomenal. Siobhan was the best of the season.
Grade A+++
So who goes home? I think
Casey will certainly be in the bottom. Who will join him? I think
Lee will be in the bottom for the first time. But
Casey goes home.
Aaron and
Mike did the best tonight and while I’m not really surprised by
Mike (these are singer’s songs)
Aaron really caught me off guard. This is what the judges saw in him. I’m glad I finally saw it too.
Something seemed awry with
Crystal tonight. She seemed so unfocused to me. So distant.
Lee seemed the same way but to a lesser extent. I will go back now and watch the whole show and see if I see something that will give me a clue about this.
As a side thought, I wonder why they quit doing two songs on top 5 night. I wonder if the same thing will happen next week with four or will they do the one song each and a duet thing again. I did like that.
Is it Tuesday Yet?
