#453 - 1--JLynne--R47S: Top 11 Performances of Top 11 Weeks: All Seasons--2008-05-24 18:03:11
#This week really has our contestants turning up the heat. They realize that anyone can be vulnerable after the first venture of top 12 week, and BAM, they come out swinging. It was difficult to choose.
Check out the passed 2 articles here:
Top 24 Performances from Semifinal Weeks
Top 12 Performances from Top 12 Weeks -
Please remember. Every week I am putting out an article that lists the best of all seven seasons for a certain week. First, we had the best performances taken from ONLY each season’s semi-final weeks. Since we usually have a top 24, I picked the top 24 performances of the semifinals from season 1- season 7. You can check it out here: Top 24 Performances from Semifinal Weeks
The next article took each season’s week of 12 contestants and I picked the best 12 of all of those performances from season 1-7. ONLY from the top 12 weeks of each season. (Season 1 is excluded, as it only had a top 10)
You can check it out here: Top 12 Performances from Top 12 Weeks
This article is looking at each season’s week of 11 contestants and deciding the top 11 performances out of all the performances OF TOP 11 WEEKS ONLY. DO NOT LEAVE A COMMENT ASKING WHY “Summertime” or “Without You” etc etc are on there. They are NOT on there, because they were NOT sung during that season’s week of 11 contestants.
Okay, now that that’s over with….
One season is really kicking all the other’s arse. Is it this current season’s “most talented ever?” What do you think? Ha. (Actually this season isn’t far behind…) Watching all of these performances back made me realize why I love this show so much. It brings me fascinating new twists on songs I’ve heard before, and enlightens me to brand new tunes that I’ve been ignorant of before. I just love singing, and I love this show, and I love these top 11 week performances!!!
THE LIST:
11. Diana DeGarmo: “Broken Wing” (Season 3) A bit muffled in the beginning, thank goodness she’s gotten her lower register together since, but the soaring note made Jordin’s later version of this forgettable.
Check it out:
Broken Wing
10. Fantasia Burrino: “Always On my Mind” (Season 3) This is one of Fantasia’s most subtle performances, and that’s what I like about it, she doesn’t over sing it. I also love Simon taking a drink in the middle of the shot…heehee….
Check it out:
Always on My Mind
9. Carly Smithson: “BlackBird” (Season 7) This was a very classy performance, and I love this song. She can’t quite find a sweet quality in her tone that I would like, but this is still excellent.
Check it out:
Blackbird
8. Syesha Mercado: “Yesterday” (Season 7) I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this. I just think it is so beautiful, subtle, and she turns up the heat at just the right moment. This is where I became a Syesha fan!!!
Check it out:
Yesterday
7. Bo Bice: “Time in a Bottle” (Season 4) At the time, I didn’t appreciate this performance as much as I do know. His vocals are heartfelt, and his tone has a magic, haunting quality to it.
Check it out:
Time in a Bottle
6. Elliott Yamin: “Teach Me Tonight” (Season 5) This is before he really got comfortable on stage, but the vocals are spot on. I absolutely adore what he does with the last third of the song. Magical!
Check it out:
Teach Me Tonight
5. Katharine McPhee: “Come Rain, or Come Shine” (Season 5) Many of you probably already know that I kinda hated on Kat. However, there are parts of her voice that I think are just gorgeous. I just think her belt sounds very squealy. Some of the runs that she does to this song are just amazing and I admire them. I love this song, and I love what she does with it, albeit one squeal and one messy run near the end.
Check it out:
Come Rain, or Come Shine
4. Paris Bennett: “Fever” (Season 5) She sang so beyond her years here, it just sent chills down your spine. She really is amazing, and she brought some incredible moments to a song we’ve heard before. (Unlike, a lovely lady this season.) It was remarkable. She also looked gorgeous in yellow!
Check it out:
Fever
3. Chris Daughtry: “I Walk the Line” (Season 5) Lots of Season 5 in this week, they really tore it up top 11 week! This performance is really the kind of style that paved the way for David Cook, and solidified Chris Daughtry as someone we would love to hear on the radio. It was also the first big “he’s covering a cover of the song he’s covering!” fiascos.
Check it out:
Walk the Line
2. Carrie Underwood: “Alone” (Season 4) This is still one of my favorite Idol performances ever. EVER. The vocal is just stupendous, and Carrie was actually remotely believable as a performer. I loved it. I still listen to it all the time!!!!!
Check it out:
Alone
1. Jordin Sparks: “I (Who Have Nothing)” (Season 6) I never thought there would be a vocal that could knock Carrie’s “Alone” down to second place, but Jordin gave the performance of a lifetime. It was seamless, gorgeous, lovely, chilled me to the bone. AND she was only 17! If somehow you missed this, you HAVE to see it, it’s so damn good.
