The Guys Second Shot

#288 - 1--ed--The Guys Second Shot--2008-02-27 08:11:30

#Can this week live up to the hype?  Can the guys bring it?  Will Simon beat his previous mean streak?  For the answer to these and other pressing issues, read on….
- The songs from the 70s are up this week.

1.Michael Johns: Go Your Own Way
I like Michael, but he is not impressing me tonight.  He certainly doesn’t win the best dressed award this week either.  There’s no denying that this guy has a great voice, but something is missing from this performance for me and I’m not sure what it is.  Randy said it wasn’t his best but he liked it.  Paula blah blah blahed, and Simon said it was okay and a weak choice of song.

2.Jason Castro: Your Everything
Jason is cute in his interview, saying how he hates interviews.  He came across as shy and nervous and to me, that makes him more human and likeable.  Jason plays the guitar again.  I wasn’t blown away like last week but it was a’ight.  Randy liked the ‘act’ but not so much the vocals.  Paula liked it.  Simon thought the song didn’t suit him and it didn’t all go together.   Ouch!  Hopefully America will give Jason another chance.  I think he just had a bad week.

3.Luke Menard: Killer Queen
Luke continues to look very hot.  I have to stop looking and start listening.  Okay.  I hope this is not just wishful thinking on my part, but I enjoyed him much more this week.  I meant his voice.  Randy said it was a difficult song and it was better.  Paula said it was great.  Simon didn’t like it because there was no charisma and personality, and was theatrical and whiny.  Luke handled the criticism well and I sure hope he sticks around a bit longer for reasons that have nothing to do with singing.

4.Robbie Carrico: Hot Blooded
This week I have a new person I vote to look out for, and it’s Robbie.  I thought this was really good!  Great song choice, great performance, and overall enjoyable!  Randy said it was good but he wasn’t wowed.  Paula thought it was a bit safe.  Simon liked it tonight.  I think Robbie came across with a bit of an attitude when he was defensive about what Randy and Paula were saying, but then he smiled and tried to make up for it.  I hope America forgives him because I’d like to see more of this guy.

5.Danny Noriega: Superstar
Love this song! I have to say I liked Danny better this week too, although something about him still rubs me the wrong way.  (did someone say attitude?)  But in terms of vocals, and yes this is a singing competition, I did enjoy this performance and thought Danny did a really great job.  Randy is very critical tonight, and thought Danny was thinking too much.  Paula agreed.  Simon said it was better than last week but likes that Danny is different and stands out.  Danny handled the criticism much better this week and I almost liked him during this part.  Almost.

6.David Hernandez: Papa Was a Rolling Stone
I have to like this guy now that he told us he was a gymnast.  My daughter is a gymnast and now I am impressed.  David has a good voice but for some reason I can’t get excited about him.  Of the three Davids, he is my least favorite. Randy raved, Paula did too, and Simon thought it was the best so far tonight.

7. Jason Yeager:Long Train Runnin
Jason is so wholesome and clean cut looking, and he is in the running for best dressed this week, but yuck.  Randy didn’t love it.  Paula said it was fun to see this side of him but the song didn’t show his vocal range.  Simon said last week was boring, and this week was awkward and ordinary and the ending was like he was drunk at a party.  Simon outdid himself with meanness on this one.  Jason handled it well but I do think it might be time for him to say adios this week.

8. Chikezie: I Believe To My Soul
I don’t like this song and I don’t like the way it was sung.  Randy liked it, Paula did too, and Simon thought it was a clever choice of song and was a lot better than last week.  I don’t like the way Chikezie interacts with the judges either.  Simon said he likes him because he is obnoxious.  Ha!

9. David Cook: All Right Now
David likes words; how can a teacher like me not love someone like that?  David is playing the guitar this week and I thought he did a great job!  And okay Jlynn, he is cute! The vocals were good and he got the audience motivated and moving!  David might be tied with Robbie to win the vote for the one to watch out for!  Randy liked it, Paula liked it, and Simon said he has no charisma.  I don’t think David handled Simon the way he should have, but he should still be safe for this week.  I hope.

10. David Archuleta: Imagine
This kid is too cute for words.  Taking on John Lennon is gutsy, but David pulled it off.  He can sing, he can perform, and he has that charisma and charm that are so necessary to succeed on this show and in real life.  Go David!!!  Randy loved it, Paula loved it, Simon loved it.  I think with this young man, we are looking at the winner of Idol 7.

Roundup:
David A. ruled the night and is ruling this competition.  Danny and Robbie impressed me more this week.  David H. has a nice voice but something is missing from his overall package.  I like David C.  Jason C. didn’t do as well as last week but I hope he sticks around.  As for who should go; it’s easy.  Chikeize, and Jason Y.  Let’s see if America agrees.
