American Idol: A Sharp, a Flat and the Worst Season Ever (top 12 week) | |
|
JLynn206 writes I’m not going to merit this season with long articles or song recommendations each week for the contestants. I am going to put as much time into it as the initial stadium auditions that hardly anyone talented gets through. (That’s about 7 seconds per person)
ROLLING STONES WEEK: I think this is a fun theme week, with many songs to pick from. There’s a little something for everyone. Let’s see how the most mediocre batch of contestants ever does on the big stage. (1)Michael Lynche “Miss You” Different arrangement of this, but he worked it out and has a lot of stage presence and a nice falsetto. It border lined on the safer side of cheesy. Score: 16/20 (2) Didi Benami “Play with Fire” She came out fighting and showed us the goods. I thought it was great that she dropped the act Lacey Brown’s been playing. Oh look at little me and my jazz diction, get over it Lacey. Didi, did forget the words, but I thought she covered well. I’d download this. Score: 16/20 (3) Casey James “It’s All Over Now” Does anyone else feel like they are grading this season on a curve? This is good for him and for this season, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s merely an above average performance of a country fair performer. Even if he has the flu. Score: 13/20 (4) Lacey Brown “Ruby Tuesday” This was the worst performance I’ve seen this side of Camille Velasco’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” season 3. If you haven’t seen that, it’s worth a youtube. And then when your ears bleed and you want to die, just youtube George Huff’s “Take me to the Pilot” right quick and you’ll pull through. Anyway, Lacey sucked again like she usually does. Score: 7/20 (5) Andrew Garcia “Gimme Shelter” This was all over the damn place. I don’t know if he couldn’t hear himself but it would be okay and then all of a sudden it wouldn’t be at all. Sigh…. Score: 11/20 (6) Kate Stevens “Wild Horses” Her singing this was an easy guess, it’s probably the only stones song she knows. It was okay. She showed off some nice parts of her voice, but there seems to always be a little shakey bakey section. It’s nice to hear someone sing with normal diction though. Score: 13/20 (7) Tim Urban “Under My Thumb” More boring than Casey, though he didn’t go to crazy pitch town like Andrew. This guy is bland but he’s not bad enough to me to be the V4TW pick. He’s just there, with his hair. 12/20 (8) Siobhan Magnus: “Paint it Black” I’m supposed to like this girl and akin her to Kelly Clarkson. I rarely do what I’m “supposed” to do and I just don’t feel her. Kudos hun, you can scream on pitch. Congrats. Here’s a cookie. Now, I’d rather just here a nice high belt. She’s fine. Score: 16/20 (9) Lee Dewyze: “Beast of Burden” I used to think this song was “I’ll never be your easter bunny” and I like it better that way. He made it all the way through without hurting my ears till the last note, which is a new record for me. I find him likeable, like I could potentially root for him, but he’s just not David Cook. Score: 16/20 (10) Paige Miles: “Honky Tonk Woman” Who sings better with a throat infection? The answer is Paige. I hope she has a throat infection all season because that was so much better then all her other performances. She’s finally risen to the rank of higher end mediocrity. Congrats Paige. Score: 16/20 (11) Aaron Kelly: “Angie” I could have guessed he would sing this too. I am so psychic. Honestly, this is the least annoying he’s been. This is because he usually sings awful country songs and that on top of his annoyingness upgrades him to high levels of excruciating. Cut out the country and he’s merely annoying and average. Score: 13/20 (12) Crystal Bowesox “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” Crystal gets high points for being the least pretentious person this season, and she sings good and plays the guitar good. Crystal, you make this season close to being almost watchable. Score: 18/20 I hope Lacey goes. Cause she has been wretched 3 times and great only once. 3 strikes you are out!!!
