American Idol: The girls get an extra day to practice. How did they do?

American Idol IdolHeadEd writes
The girls prove why Simon is touting them so much this year.

Crystal Bowersox: “Long as I can See the Light”
Great as usual. She showed much more power and range. Crystal may have been sick but for me, she actually looked better. Performance and vocal were perfect. Whether she wants to or not she will be here for a long time. I’m not sure the Idol audience can warm all the way up to her but with perfromacnes like this they won’t be able to help themselves. I’m afraid the show can only go downhill from here. Grade A +

Haleley Vaughn: “The Climb”
Haleley had some pitch issues from the get go. I’m not sure she ever got on pitch. This was a big risk and it didn’t pay off. .Doing Miley is her age…. kinda. She just could not pull it off. Kara says she needs a year. I think she needs several more years. Grade D

Lacey Brown: “Kiss Me”
Great song choice and she put her own spin on it. I don’t know what the hell the judges are hearing? She changed this up quite a bit. Have they ever heard the song? 1000% better than last week. She looked awesome and I loved it. It wasn’t Crystal but very good.  I wrote that before Simon said it. I think she might have gained some support. I mean really, how can you say no to those killer green eyes? She did at some points run out of breath and that is a sign she still has the jitters. Grade B-

Katie Stevens: “Put Your Records On”
I thought this was the best I’ve seen Katie. I loved this. I don’t know what the dawg was hearing but the song was pitch perfect. I totally disagree with all the judges. She was confident. I loved everything about this. She moved around comfortably. Not so pageanty this week. Maybe my TV cleans up the crap.  But then how do I explain Halely?  I was not really a fan til tonight. Grade A-

Didi Benami: “Lean On Me”
Great performance again. I thought this was going to be a wreck. I liked the way she changed it up. Again I am not agreeing with the judges at all. I loved it. What are the judges hearing? She will be staying. I think America will disagree with the judges too. Don’t turn on the waterworks puuuhhlease! If you can’t take this you’ll be in some real trouble later on. Like Andrew, Didi is riding that Hollywood wave and it will take you only so far. Grade B+

Michelle Delamor: “With Arms Wide Open”
I’m not diggin’ the song so much. She seemed to go off pitch more than usual. Now if the judges say this was good I’m not listening to these guys anymore. Since I have never heard the song I don’t have any idea how much she changed it. She did look good. Kara I don’t get you and Simon tonight. Grade C-

Lilly Scott: “Change is Going To Come”
Lilly was gain great. I liked this almost better than last week. OK, better. I loved everything about this. She is awesome. She has this thing that draws you in. I’m not even a real fan of this song. I like more melodic songs but she made me stop typing and watch. As if we ever doubted it she will cruise into the top 12 and hang in there fro a very long time. Grade A+
Katelyn Epperly: “The Scientist”
She looks like a freaking star behind that piano. I’m not familiar with the song but I saw where someone suggested Siobhan sing this. But I am surprised I like her this much. There were some pitch issues but this was very well delivered. It was impressive enough. I liked her a lot. I was never a fan and thought of her as a lightweight but she is good enough to make the top 12. Grade B

Paige Miles: “Walk Away”
I like the risk on the song choice. I like the singing. Paige may just have saved herself another week. It was good but not so fantastic. I liked that she showed us that big note. I actually got to like her a little more. Whether America votes or not is another story. One of my favorite Kelly tunes. Grade C+

Siobhan Magnus: “Think”
I will say I’m not really a fan of this song. Ironically it has been sung by my favorites, Diana, Kat, and now Siobhan. All three did a great job but tonight, Siobhan takes the gold. That’s Olympic speak. I thought this was awesome. I can now hear all the Adam fans jumping on het bandwagon. That note was Adam like except it wasn’t as screechy to me. We haven’t seen everything Siobhan has to offer yet. You want to see her hit some high notes take a look at this video Siobhan on stage  Tonight she got the pimp spot and delivered unlike Katie last week. I’m glad that they are pushing her a bit more.  I’ll bet this gets more iTunes downloads than any other this week. Grade A+

Like last night the bookends won the night. Unlike last night there was more good stuff in between. Not only are the girls stronger, they’re way stronger. I was afraid after Crystal gave that A+ performance the show would go straight down hill. In some respects it did but the hill was not as steep as I thought it would be. This also might be the reason all the girls that went immediately, except Haleley, after Crystal got ragged on so much by the judges. They might have been comparing the other girls to her. I guess that’s fair but it skewed the judges judgment too much. I guess you could say they were judging on a curve and Crystal screwed the curve. Anyway I thought tonight was one of the better nights of the top 24 and not just this year. A few of the girls made vast improvements from last week. A few didn’t but one thing is for sure, the “Woodstock 3”, easily won the night. No one else was even close. Crystal, Lilly, and Siobhan cleaned house and at least the judges could see that. These three are really in a different league than the rest for me. You might disagree. But then you’d be wrong. My order of finish:

1. Siobhan- With a weak song.
2. Crystal- Best song of the three.
3. Lilly- Look for her in the pimp spot next week.

Skip a space here

4. Katie- Big improvement over last week.
5. Katelyn- I like her on the piano. She looked so classy and comfortable.
6. Didi- Bad song but admirable job.
7. Lacey- Most improved from last week….by far.
8. Paige- Good song choice but bad delivery.
9. Michelle- Bad song choice and mediocre delivery.

Skip a space here

10. Haleley. What can I say? Janay Castine anyone?

I think Lacey’s performance, her package, and her looks will save her at least one more week. Paige and especially Haleley just didn’t do anything more this week to make their case for the top 12. They are in real danger. I also think Michelle could be on the edge as well. Her package might have helped her a bit. This should be Haleley’s last week. But this is Idol and Janay hung around til the 3rd round.

Well I can see at least four or five of these girls in for a while. A bit of the shine has worn off Didi but she is still better than four others and that’s all she needs for the top 12. The guys just aren’t nearly as good. We had 5 girls pitch perfect tonight. We had only one pitch perfect guy last night and that one guy I’m still not so sure about. So the guys have their work cut out. And from my perspective, we should lose three guys before one girl goes home in the top 12. The three guys left will be Andrew, Casey, and Lee. It is possible that Alex could unseat one of them or even beat out one of the girls.

What a rest night f Idol I’m going back and watch it again. Well………most of it. Sorry Haleley, Paige and Michelle.

Is it Tuesday yet?

Ed, It scares me that I like the same top 3 girls as you. I'm still not as gung ho on this season; I never like the girl years as much. Even though I like Siobhan, PLEASE do not ever compare her to Adam again. That will totally turn Adam fans off instead of having them 'jumping on her bandwagon'.  Trust me, I know of what I speak.

Ed, Regardless of where you're getting your info, Linda's right... I know you weren't a fan, but I am, and Adam is so much more than big notes. I like Siobhan but the thought of comparing her to Adam in any way simply never crossed my mind. They're apples and oranges, but both talented.
