IdolHeadEd writes The season’s only one week old and I’m already diggin’ it….big time. And more importantly, so is my wife.
As I have proposed in the past and is the most accurate statement I ever make about Idol is that every season has its own distinct personality. What makes or breaks the season is if America likes the personality or not. I think it is safe to say we all like this season’s personality. I think most will agree that last week’s top 13 was one of, if not the best start ever to a season. I find myself liking everyone and not just a little. Every season we always hear “that it is the best season ever”. I will no longer purport that that because I always get disappointed. But I will say I had a bad feeling about this season after the top 36. That has totally changed now. We may have some ridiculous performances as early as Tuesday, Country week. I can’t wait to hear Alison and Alexis tone it down and hear their pure voice. Danny and Adam can show some true vocals as well. Matt will be brilliant I’m sure. He will actually be able to pick a song he can sing and not sing at. Michael Sarver might win the night and Kris will likely be plucking the strings again except this time we may actually hear him. Who knows what Meagan will pull out of her hat but you know it will be different and unique. I think Scott will probably be a bit bland and Anoop may just get lost. Lil will be great I have no doubt. This is my personal top 11 rank: 1. Danny Gokey 2. Alison Iraheta 3. Matt Giraud 4. Alexis Grace 5. Adam Lambert 6. Lil Rounds 7. Kris Allen 8. Michael Sarver 9. Megan Corkrey 10. Anoop Desai 11. Scott MacIntyre I could actually bundle Kris, Michael, Lil, and Adam in the same rank, #5. What a group. I never thought I be saying I can’t wait for Country week. Here’s the real ranking: 1. Danny Gokey – I rank Danny #1 because I think he will be less polarizing than Adam. I also think his style will be more conducive to the Idol audience. One thing is for sure; the judges will never have to use their save on Danny. 2. Adam Lambert – Adam is #2 because no matter how polarizing he may end up being he will give performances that will not soon be forgotten in Idol lore. And even those who end up not liking him will still be looking forward to what he is about to spring on us. 3. Matt Giraud – We have yet to hear Matt reel one in yet other than the “Georgia” blip we got in Hollywood. I don’t think it is out of the realm of possibility that Matt could sneak up and win. Big band night will be his night to make his case. And who knows, Country week might just put a boost in his stock. 4. Alexis Grace – Alexis has surprised me both times I heard her…….in a good way. I hope this week we get to hear her pure, not over the top, voice. She is adorable and very likable and I do think she has the voice to sail through this competition. 5. Alison Iraheta – I am not so sure a 16 year old can’t win this thing. Alison is something very special. Diana DeGarmo was something special. But I think Alison does have what it takes to be a teen pop star now. Unlike Diana whose style was much more studied, Alison is a natural when she hits the stage. She looks genuine. She is an unnatural when she is being interviewed. I put her this low only because if that. Dialidol had her next to last in the rankings last week. I hope those numbers are a fluke because if they’re not, this will cause the judges to use their get out of jail card way too early. And believe me they will use it on Alison.
6. Lil Rounds – Lil is really good but even with her performance I really liked last week, it is nothing really different. But Lil is so good vocally and at commanding the stage that she will be here for a while. Maybe longer than I predict. She will have to do some Syesha to move up. 7. Kris Allen – Kris is one who certainly could climb up this ranking. We have not really heard him yet. He could also move down .I can’t wait to hear him when he chooses the right song and we can actually hear his voice. 8. Michael Sarver - After listening to Michael back a few times I was actually surprised how good he is. He is much better than Josh Gracin. And Josh is still making a living singing. I think he will really shine this week and will be in no danger of oily hands any time soon. 9. Megan Corkrey – Like Adam, Megan is a bit polarizing but there is no denying she has a very distinct sound. I could imagine her having a successful recording career. I suspect she will do well this week. 10. Scott MacIntyre – Scott should do OK this week but I just don’t think his vocals are up to the level of even the guy below him, Anoop. I don’t see him winning any new fans. I can only imagine his fan base eroding while some of his fans switch boats. He could be gone this week and even the judges won’t save him. 11. Anoop Desai – Anoop is very lucky he survived last week. He was overwhelmed by the stage and it was obvious. Before he even sings this week Anoop has the added pressure of knowing he’s closer to continuing his pursuit if his masters degree in Folklore than his Idol run. There you have it. It must be a pretty good season because my wife will even watch a little Idol with me this year and you know everything’s funner with your wife. I’m not so sure about your husbands. By the way, her favorite is Alison. This should be good. Before I bust a move outta here I found a little something you will like. For those who remember the short lived career of Leslie Hunt in season 6, she didn’t stop pursuing a music career and I am glad. If you were reading the Idolhead back then you know I was a fan. Now I’m really a fan. I will try to get her on Your NewTunes.com. Follow the link and listen to her single. I don’t know if it will make the radio but it rocks. Here it is: Leslie Hunt: "American Dream Man" Don’t forget, if you want to buy Idol songs from iTunes please click the link to the left and support this site. My mother needs an operation. Thanks Is it Tuesday yet? Idolhead Ed
