American Idol: Kristy Lee Cook fans are about to be vindicated

American Idol IdolHeadEd writes
Kristy Lee Cook was more than just a recipient of many a criticizm while on Idol season 7. For Kristy and her fans this is all about to end.

Every year on Idol it seems we always have someone who gets skewered week to week til they are finally booted. Season 1 Nikki, Season 2 Carmen, Season 3 John Stevens, Season 4 Scott Savol, Season 5 Kellie Pickler, Season 6 Sanjaya. Well this season it was Kristy Lee Cook. So hated it seemed that a lot of bloggers quit using her name and just called her KLC. But as an objective critic myself (cough! cough!)  I never left Kristy's corner.
From the first "Amazing Grace" to "Anyway" I always liked her and thought she would be a star on the show. The latter never really happened. Kristy never really was able to gain any real confidence after her first top 24 song. She did improve but very slowly and not convincingly. Staying in the top 12 for 5 weeks was more than I expected after her first bottom 3 appearence......and second.... and third....

But this past week I went to the Idol concert here in Atlanta and much to my surprise, every semblence of that insecure, half committed to a song, Idol dart board was the best of the show. All three songs were 10 times better than any she had performed on the show. In fact, Kristy was the only one in the show that did two songs she did not perform on the show. The only mistake she made, and it very well may have not been her fault. That mistake was not singing her new single "15 Minutes of Shame". Her performance of "Cowboy" and "Squeeze the love outta You" were spot on great. As I said in my review, this was not the Kristy we saw on the show.

When I got home I checked YouTube to see if anyone vidoed any of the concert. I as expected found all 3 of Kristy's performances. But to my surprise I also stumbled across "15 Minutes of Shame". And that is really what this column is about.

Of all Idols first singles, and there have been many I liked, this one is my favorite. I was never crazy about Kelly's "A Moment Like This" but loved "Ms. Independent".I didn't like any of Ruben's efforts and only mildly cared for Clay's "This is the Night". Diana's "Emotional" was pretty good but liked none of Fantasia's stuff. And anytime I ever think a winning single is bad I just remeber the most successful winner of all had the worst winner's single of them all "Inside My Heaven". Her follow up "Jesus Take the Wheel" was redemption personified. And I knew after this and review Carrie's CD that she would skyrocket. Don't get me started on Seasons 5's garbage singles. Season 6 I can't say much more about. I will admit that David Cook's single is by far my favorite winning single. And if Atlanta radio is any indication, everyone else likes it too. It seems to be on every radio station all the time. I'm not in love with the other David's "Crush".

Even though Kristy Lee finished 7th, she did get signed and her first single is fantastic by any measure. Everything in this song works. Everything. The beat, the lyric, the melody, the arrangement, and most importantly Kristy's perfect unique voice and take on it. From the first second you hear her you know it's her. This very identifyable voice will soon be known and loved by all. This is the girl I was rooting for when everyone else was complaining about her horses. She came out of her shell on tour and now she is out of her shell in the studio.

The radio staions have not started playing it yet and iTunes put it back deep in the mix but I think this song like Carrie's "Jesus..." will catapult her into the most successful Idol Country career next to Carrie. And with the performance skills she showed on tour, maybe even past her.

I can't wait to get her CD which I believe will be out around September 16th. Once I listen to it, I will be able to closely predict how successful she will be. I was spot on exact with Carrie's CD review. It is almost all about the music. Great songs mean great success if you can carry them off and if "15 Minutes .." is any indication, and I think it is, Carrie will have Kristy nipping at her heels.

I won't leave you having to stumble over "15 Minutes...." so hear it here . I also suggest you go and buy it on iTunes in spite of the fact it's damn hard to find. And when you find it notice the popularity of the song. It is maxed out. When you buy it there will be an extra little part when the music stops and she's says the name of her offender. Hope you like it as much as me and request it on your local Country and Pop station. This has "Before He Cheats" potential. In fact I like it better.

Is it season 8 yet?
