Nashville Star: He Said, She’s missing: Nashville, We have a winner

Nashville Star IdolHeadEd writes
While it wasn’t a giant surprise, it was a good one….for me at least.

Unfortunately, Juliet is off gallivanting in the world with out cyberspace, or so “She Said”. I had to write that. Anyway I’m sure Juliet is in at least a land with TVs so I won’t be telling her anything thin new as Rickey Ricardo would say.

We start off with a group “Achy, Breaky Heart” Which was good except for when Billy Ray joined in. Oh wait, that’s his claim to fame, and only his second biggest claim to fame. I don’t see any Emmy’s in his future if you foller me. In fact if this show gets renewed I’ll bet my house Billy Ray won’t. It’s a good thing he has a very cute billionaire daughter.

I liked that they brought everyone back. I would like too have heard everyone sing one last time. Well maybe not everyone but at least Pearl Heart. Yeah, me and Jeffrey are a kindred spirit.  I also would have liked some more show. At least 30 minutes more.

Down to the nitty. With Shawn, Melissa and Gabe waiting for the first elimination was there any suspense Shawn? I don’t think so and I think everyone knew it before hand. And I say this because when they went to record the single in the studio with John, I saw nary hide nor hair of Shawn but lots of Melissa and Gabe.

We get to hear Melissa and Gabe each sing a song without the threat of nerves and both sounded good but I will say that Melissa sounded much better. Which also makes me wonder if that result may have been known ahead of time. I’m no conspiracy theorist but…..

And after three flicks forward on my DVR (That’d be 30 seconds each flick because either Billy Ray can’t read or is just that slow)  Melissa is announced the winner. And that’s a good thing. She was clearly the class voice in this competition from day one. Even from week one it appeared they would be that last two standing.

But now two futures lie in the balance; Melissa’s and Nashville Star’s. I’m afraid that Melissa’s may be a bit brighter than Nashville Star’s. I really like the single and will be downloading it right after I finish this masterpiece article. And if Melissa is as fortunate as Carrie Underwood and I might add Miranda Lambert here, and is able to get killer songs on her CD, she might well be the end of the nowhere goin’ winners of Nashville Star.

As for Nashville Star, It was rumored that this would be the last season before it came to NBC from sister cable station USA. I was never really able to get the ratings of Star but they could not possibly been very good. I would think though that they were better than the USA ratings. Was it enough to keep it on one more season? Personally, and I’m sure I speak for “She’s Missing”, I hope so.

Many long time fans of Star have complained that it sucked on NBC with the changes. If they are talking about Billy Ray I can get on board with that but watching it in Hi Def sure beat the crap out of that almost unwatchable standard def USA. But with the almost surely broader audience and most likely larger audience aquired from the NBC exposure, it may have been enough to garner one more season on USA. With the success of new USA shows like “Burn Notice” and “Psych” the powers that be might give it another season on USA. That would be OK with me now since USA is in HD.

Anyway Congrats to Melissa and I’ll be watching and listening for your music. In fact, I’m going to buy one of your songs right now.

Til hopefully next season,
