American Idol: Neil Diamond: Was it “Love on the Rocks” or “Sweet Caroline”?

American Idol IdolHeadEd writes
I’m a big Neil Diamond fan. I just hope the Idols do him justice.

Jason: “Forever in Blue Jeans”
An absolutely great song choice. And it worked fabulously. Not too rangy and right in his wheelhouse. My favorite Jason performance of the top 12. Now am I off the “You hate Jason you Carly lover” hate list?  Grade A-

David Cook: “I’m Alive”
I don’t think anyone has had the handle on what to do on Idol like David. This was great. I want to go out and buy it. He didn’t go too far off the reservation but just “enough to show who he is. I also have never heard this song before. I hope Neil can do as well as David did. Grade A +

Brooke White:  “I’m a Believer”
Brooke straps on the guitar for “I’m a Believer”. Can she make one of me? Not this time. She was practically drowned out by the band. And it was too low for her.  Terrible?  No.  Great? No.  Forgettable? I already forgot it. Grade C

David Archuleta: “Sweet Caroline”
I didn’t recognize the song at first. David got a little drowned out by the band a well. His was OK. Not his best by far. Grade B

Syesha: “Hello Again”
This was great. I think her best ever. She seemed at ease and hit every note. Looked fabulous and made me really pay attention.  I loved it. Grade A

And what the hell was Paula snorting? The look on Jason’s face said it all. She reminded me of me when my wife tells me something. And Simon cut them no slack at all. I, on the other hand, did not think it was as bad.

Jason: “September Morn”
Guitar less Jason Starts off well but seems to lose it a little toward the end. I think Simon made him nervous while Paula probably bent his mind making him think he already sang two songs. It was not as good as the first for me. Grade C  Ooops! I’m back on the hate train.

David Cook: “All I Really Need is You”
I liked it much as the first. He knows what to do and when to do it. I think he was the best of the night by a margin. I want t download both songs tonight. Grade A+

Brooke White:  “I Am I Said”
This is one of my all time favorite Neil tunes. Uh oh, it looks like she’s going to forget some words again so she writes them on her hand. Way, way better than the first. I actually liked it. She seemed to calm down a bit and it showed. This could be my favorite Brooke song so far. Grade A-

David Archuleta: “Coming to America”
I didn’t think I’d like this but it was better than his first. Great range on this song. Great presence. I like the changes he made. Grade A

Syesha: “Thank the Lord for the Nightime”
I liked the first was better but this was not bad at all. She definitely is my favorite girl left. In fact, She is my second favorite left. But Simon ain’t kiddin’. She might be in trouble. Grade B+

I was wondering if Paula was going to compliment Jason on his third song. But she didn’t.

How was tonight? It didn’t turn on my “Heart Light” but it was pretty good. I wish the show wasn’t so rushed. They manage to make a 2 minute results into one hour so why couldn’t they make this 1.5 hours? But who is joining Carly and crew? That was for all you readers who know I can’t get over Carly. Tell me you didn’t miss her. That was rhetorical.

The bottom 2 will be Syesha and Brooke with my favorite of course, Syesha, going home. At this point it doesn’t seem to matter who goes because everyone but the Davids will be gone in 3 weeks. And if that prediction comes up short, so will the finale ratings.

I have a surprise test for you all this Friday. Make sure all you Kelly Clarkson fans, I’m one by the way, check us out Friday morning.  Sirlinks may not let this article up so you may have to come directly to the site but you do not want to miss this.

Is it Tuesday yet?

I'm sorry, but after Paula tells Jason that she didn't like his second song- before he even sings it- the writing was on the wall, and Jason read it. I give him a pass, on September, for that- although he was better than a C, in my opinion.

How could you like Syesha's first song.  It was down right scarry.  It is a song about two people who just broke up and are trying to get back together, and she had he cheerleader smile on through the whole song.  It was like she enjoyed torturing the person on the other side of the telephone.

I would have dropped the grades on all of the performances tonight.  I don't think any of them got the Neil Diamond emotion, and none of them deserved higher than a B- in my opion.  The worst on two songs was David A.  He was totally out of his element, and did you hear his voice crack.  The judges didn't even talk about that, and neither did you.  I am surprised.  The two worst songs were Brooke's "I am a Believer" and Syesha's "Hello Again".  The three best were David C's two songs and Brooke's "I Am I Said".

Based on last night's performance alone, I would put David A, and Syesha in the bottom two with David A. going home.  He was that bad.  In reality, I think Simon is right, Syesha will be going home tonight.
