IdolHeadEd writes Carly seemed to have a love hate relationship with America. But it appears it was mostly hate.
Usually I don’t like rockers whether their guys or girls. I never liked Heart and those girls were possibly the greatest female vocalists of the 70’s. I do like Daughtry but I tend to like the Kellys, Carries, Clays and Katharines on Idol. But for some reason, this year I really latched on to Carly. I fell in love with her voice. There has never been a better lower register, male or female, on this show. She may not have been as pretty as Kristy or Syesha, but she more than made up for it in her performance and singing. She will go down as the greatest 6th place finisher in the history of the show. She should have gone down not less than the greatest 3rd place finisher. In this season of so many great talents, Carly still stood out. She may not have been universally liked but musically had to be respected. Many times seeing her on that stage it was if I was watching a Carly Smithson concert, not a TV talent show. And no matter who goes now, I will not miss them as much as I will Carly. So here is the Idolhead’s “Ode to (the way to early booted even though some of my colleagues strongly disagree) Carly. Carly When the season of seven of Idol began, It looked like Idol might have a good plan. They’d bring more of the good and less of the bad, But too many people assumed they’d been had. They screamed and they screamed you already had deals, But David and David got nothing but squeals, While Brooke and Syesha and Jason got jazzed Kristy and Michael and Carly got razzed. There were many who whined about the countries you’re from, “You’re not even Americans you foreigner scum”. Michael and Carly just took it in stride, But when Michael got booted it was Carly who cried. But of all of the ones who took the bad rap, It was Carly who ended up really getting the crap. She wore a tattoo on her right arm with pride, But the people did not like it along for the ride. I’ll have to admit tattoos aren’t my thing But I didn’t mind cause Carly could sing. She could sing and could sing like nobody could, I just knew she would be here for long and for good. Many would complain of the faces she made, When she sang out her heart and left it on stage. She sang from the very depths of her soul, Now that she’s gone in my heart lies the hole. Through the Hollywood rounds to the top 24, I could tell she was happy from the smile that she wore. And even when she hit the bad bottom 3, Whose favorite she stayed, well, that would be me. She was clearly the best of the girls season seven, And when I heard her sing, it sounded like heaven. I found I was mostly alone with that thought, Even the girls on my site on that point with me fought. Carly’s gone not forgotten and I’ll tell you this, When she goes on tour you won’t want to miss, The songs she will sing will make you stand up and cheer, A show not easily forgotten for many a year. So I wish you farewell, and I’ll see you real soon, When you come to Atlanta under the bright August moon. To sing for us all with nine others in tow, Then the ones who don’t get you will “get” what I know. Love you Carly Smithson. Is it Tuesday yet? Idolhead Ed
