American Idol: Irish eyes aren’t smilin’ and neither is the Idolhead

American Idol IdolHeadEd writes
What the hell is wrong with the voters of American Idol? I’ll tell you what. 95% aren’t old enough to drink or think.

I’ve been watching this show since its inception. There is no worse elimination ever than what happened tonight. I’m glad I had nothing in my hand tonight during the announcement or I’d have nothing to watch Idol on next week. Really people who out there thinks Brooke or Jason was even close to Carly in talent or ANY performance? I didn’t feel like going through the motions with the elimination as you can see because I have never been so upset by any result in any season on any night.

Carly went down, not because she didn’t sing well. She went down for ridiculous reasons. And what the hell was Syesha doing in the bottom 2? This absolutely proves that this show is not about talent at all. It is a popularity contest. Yeah I know I’m late to the party but damn!

The only consolation for me is that I know Michael, Kristy Lee, and Carly will get a deal and I will be able to support them by the purchase of all their CDs. In three consecutive weeks, three talents that should have been in the top 5 are now going to be watching the show on TV instead of from the couch where they should be.

Carly put on a good front but I know she has to be hurting deeply inside but likely not as much as me. Do you realize we will have to endure two songs from both Brooke and Jason next week on Neil Diamond week?  Neil Diamond! How Carly would have ruled. For that matter so would Kristy and Michael. The beginning of the funeral video said it all. She has it right in front of her and just can grab it. Well I say this time it was snatched by a bunch of boppers.

I am anxious to see what the guys at Foxes have to say this week in their “Why Carly lost” article. The only feasible explanation is; 1. America’s on drugs.  2. America’s on drugs and had them shoved in their ears. How could they send Carly home? It is unconscionable. Honestly the only other person’s eviction that would have upset me as much would have been David Cook.

Look, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out what goes on in the Idol voting world. We know who spends the entire 2 hours voting. And as my wife pointed out, the people who like Carly are not the people who vote. And she’s right. Just like Chris Daughtry. I hope Carly “suffers” the same fate. They don’t vote with their phones, they vote with their wallets. And the fact that Idol’s ratings are down about 5-7 million may explain a little. The voters with brains quit watching. I guess I have no brains.

Carly, I am looking forward to meeting you when you return to your former hometown here in Atlanta, August 18th, on tour. Get ready to get smothered with praise from the Idol head. You are one of the 5 best talents ever on this show and quite frankly, (I never thought I’d ever say this) you are too good for this show. I can’t wait to buy your CD. I can only hope we will have the opportunity to enjoy you years beyond this show. I have a strong feeling 19 will be offering you a deal. Upload your stuff to www.yournewtunes.com  I guarantee you’ll get heard and bought there. See you’ve already gotten your first offer.

Needless to say, (I’m going to say it anyway) I will miss you sumthin’ terrible. You deserved a much better fate. And this is the first time ever I have had my favorite not finish either 1st or 2nd in the season. But strangely enough, the exact same thing happened on Canadian Idol this year too. The final two should have been Carly (Coincidence?) Rae Jepsen and Greg Neufeld. Neither made it to the final. Carly did make the final 3 and way, way out sung both boys yet was eliminated.

I watch Idol in hopes of catching the occasional nugget. More often than not, those nuggets are far and few between. Carly is one of those very rare nuggets. We may not get the likes of her again for years. We haven’t seen hide nor hair of another Kelly now have we?

I guess I’m done? I’m going to go have myself a good cry now.

Is it Tuesday yet?

What a travesty.  I'm so sad.  Talk about tears.  These Irish eyes are definitely crying.  Carly really didn't get a fair shake in my opinion.  It wasn't just the voting public but the judges as well.  This has been and, no doubt, will continue to be the most manipulated Idol season yet, and it's shameful in my opinion.  I'll be looking forward to more of Carly in the future.  She deserves all the success life has to offer.
Slán agus beannacht leat, Carly.

It's always hard when one of our favorites goes early.  I enjoy reading your articles and am sorry it happened to you.

I didn't enjoy Carly's performance this week.  I felt she had no idea what she was singing about.  Grinning happily throughout that song just struck me as bizaare. I also did not enjoy the part where she left much of the singing to the background singers.   I doubt, however, that that's why she lost.  I think she lost because your wife is right.  She didn't appeal to those who vote for 2 hours straight.

This was the first season that there were three Idols that I would consider buying their CD.  Michael, Carly and David C.  Even when they didn't make the best song choices, they just had voices that you would want to listen to time and time again.  I stopped watching the show after Michael was eliminated.  I now watch my favorites on youtube.  This just shows it is not a talent competiton, it is a popularity contest.  I also wouldn't be surprise if the eliminations were scripted to provide television drama. Unfortunately, by two of the best singers leaving early and before some not even in the same league, it has hurt the show.

Well, this week's elimination was a not-so-gentle reminder not to take this show too seriously.  As long as folks can vote as many times as they can push the buttons, presonality will rule - though I must say that Jason got my vote retroactively when the camera caught him yawning backstage while awaiting the separation of the last four into winners and losers.  As long as David C. remains in the running I'll keep watching.

I have to kind of agree with you.  I haven't liked Carly all year, because she oversang and rarely connected to the song.  I thought she did alright Tuesday, but I wasn't wowed.  Brooke should have gone home, because I think she wants to go home.  However, I would buy Brooke's and Jason's CDs long before I would buy Carly's or Syesha's.  I am sorry Ed, but in reality, I would have sent her packing much earlier.  She has a great voice, but she doesn't listen to those trying to help her, and tends to oversings everything.  It appears as though I am not the only one that feels that way.

American Idol is a popularity contest, and it should be.  I could give you a long list of singing icons that can barely carry a tune or that can't stay on pitch.  American music is as much about the performance and the connection made with the singer as it is about raw talent.  Carly has the raw talent, but didn't connect the viewer to the songs she sang.  Therefore, she is gone.

I liked Carly and am sad to see her go.  However, I thought her performance the other night was the worst of the season.  I hated it.  I ranked it dead last.  Jason's my favorite.  I can't wait to hear him sing twice!  I love his mellow sound.

I was so sad to see Carly go last night, she is a great talent but maybe didn't showcase it well on the show because she was trying to hard please the judges and she didn't really let go and be who she is as a performer.  She said as much last night.  We don't have to wait to buy her CD though, go to amazon.com, buy her first album, Ultimate High under her maiden name Carly Hennessy.

There is a travesty (or several) every year. Last year it was Melinda Doolittle, this year is was Carly. This show is for the main stream pop taste despite the claims that "we are looking for originality and uniqueness". That is total bull and insult to those few who can actually appreciate and recognize real talent.
