American Idol: Diana DeGarmo reality robbed again.

American Idol IdolHeadEd writes
Diana DeGarmo was on the latest reality singing type show for the last month and half called Gone Country. And if she was runner up this time we never know.

John Rich of Big and Rich, decided to do his own reality show by taking someone outside the Country singing genre and see if they could in fact be Country singers. Talk about as diverse cast. This was not a bunch of Idol wannabes. This was a group of very established professional singers save one. And who knew that Maureen McCormick put out her own record. You remember her as Marcia, Marcia, Marcia, from the Brady Bunch. The rest of the cast included Sisqo, Bobby Brown, Carnie Wilson, Julio Iglesias Jr., Dee Snyder, and of course Diana DeGarmo.

First off who would even think someone like Dee Snyder, lead singer of Heavy Metal Rock group Twisted Sister, would even consider doing something like this. Who even knew Marcia Brady could even sing. Bobby Brown, Sisqo? The funny thing is they all did very well.

But who won this? In my opinion the least of the contestants won it. Not that he is not great romantic type singer but for my money he was not the best Country type singer by far. He even sang his song partly in Spanish and was the least Country of them all. But John Rich kind of gave away the winner before the competition even started although we didn’t realize it at the time. The winner was Julio Iglesias Jr. Before we heard the first note out of Julio, John said I am looking for someone who can pull in that Hispanic audience Country music needs. Now in context it doesn’t seem so important because he went around to all the participants and said a similar thing to them concerning their particular leaning. But looking back….. I’m not saying that Julio was bad, he was great and his song was fabulous but neither were Country. So in the context of this competition, as Simon would say, it just wasn’t good enough. Of course the public did not get to vote either.

There are many things that differentiate this from Idol. Not the least of which the contestants must write their own song for the competition. And they only sing one song. Most of the show tended to lean toward Big Brother which I didn’t care a bit about. And even the final results were not entirely shown on TV. For that you have to go here to see that. http://www.cmt.com/shows/dyn/gone-country/series_videos.jhtml  These are all the final episodes songs in their entirety. On the show we only got small snippets.

Like I said they all did really well but Bobby Brown surprised me the most. I never thought in a million years he’d be able to pull this off. But just as I expected Diana was the best of the group. See for yourself in the videos.

Diana sang her song the very best and as far as writing, I think I liked her song the best as well. I would expect to hear their on her next CD. Diana is now 20, sporting brown instead of blond hair, but just as spunky as ever. I miss her and hope she comes out soon with a new CD because she deserved to win this competition and it wasn’t even close.
