Nominated in three Categories, Carrie took no prisoners. Nominated in four categories, Chris did the same.

Season 5 of American Idol had the most talent of any season bar none. This is not even arguable. The top 5 all got record deals. Bucky Covington, finishing 9^th got a record deal and is now a fixture on the Country music scene along with Kellie Pickler. But not even the winner, runner-up or 3^rd place finisher is able to hold a candle to the 4^th place finisher, Chris Daughtry. Selling over 3,000,000 CDs and taking the radio by storm, he is the only superstar from that unbelievable season. I won’t go into the reasons I don’t think anyone from season 5 can touch him, but the numbers and awards speak for themselves.

Nominated in Four categories Chris won all but one. That one he didn’t win went to Carrie. Here they are and who he won against.

Breakthrough Artist. Against Plain White T’s and Robin Thicke. This award was presented by last year’s winner, Carrie Underwood.

Favorite Adult Contemporary: Norah Jones and John Mayer. Some damn good company

Favorite Pop/Rock Album; Linkin’ Park and Justin Timberlake

I’m sure this is just the tip of the iceberg for Chris. His new single in the radio “Over You” is now my favorite. If he can continue to write songs like this he will become a music institution really fast.

Now on to Carrie Underwood, American idol season 4 winner. While her class on American Idol was not a bad one Carrie was clearly the class of her season. And now she is the class of the Country music world. Carrie was nominated in 3 categories and won all three beating out American Idol alum Chris for one. Here they are and who she won against.

Favorite Female Country artist: Martina McBride and Taylor Swift.

Favorite Country Album: Tim McGraw and Rascal Flatts. Her CD “Some Hearts” has sold over 6,000,000. I’ll make a prediction here now. Her new CD “Carnival Ride” Will outsell it and have more hit singles. And since Carrie has written four tunes on this CD it solidifies her more as a superstar. Look for “Carnival Ride” to be Country Album of the year next year. I was at the Atlanta Falcons game Sunday and they were playing "Flat on the Floor", the first track of Carrie's "Carnival Ride". I'd say that's a good sign but also have to say it was an appropriate pick since the Falcons were put flat on the floor.

I hope now we will see a serious decline in the cynicism toward American Idol. And even though we didn’t see Kelly Clarkson this year in these awards, she too is clearly a superstar and will be back. The fact is, talent is talent. And who decides that? We the public do. Not to say there aren’t many talented people that don’t make it, but when the public get a chance to pick who they want, they do. And it is clear that Kelly, Carrie and Chris are ours forever.
