American Idol: The Odds are in and is there a change at the top?

Idol Articles IdolHeadEd writes

With only four weeks to go in American Idol 6 the odds take a shift and this late in the game can be a very good predictor. Last year at this time Taylor made his move and while most folks don’t think he should have won (record sales bear this out as well, 650,000 CDs to date) the odds said he would. Katharine was consistently #2 all season. So what’s up with the odds? Read on…..

The big shocker of Season 6 this week left me a bit weak in the knees. When Jordin Sparks was the last one standing the bookies heart sank even more. If you’d have bet on her to be the next evictee you could have cleaned house. Fortunately for us, Idol, and the bookmakers we got jammed. No one went home. But no one going home was not a bet option. Let’s look at how it breaks down this week.

Jordin Sparks at 1/1 is our new favorite. Jordin has the pleasure of being the youngest ever to occupy this position on American Idol. With six people left and the closest one to Jordin’s age being Chris at 22, it’s looking like no matter how this turns out, Jordin is in for a big career. This 17 year old is competing against two 29 year olds, one 27 year old, one 25 year old, and one 22 year old. Quite amazing!

Melinda Doolittle dropped to 2nd at 1.2 / 1. Not much behind but behind none the less. Melinda still is likely to be the winner in my opinion. She performs absolutely flawlessly every week. None but her can say that.

Blake Lewis at 6/1 is a relative distant 3rd. Again Blake is multitalented and will have a long illustrious career after Idol anyway. He got just what he needed out of Idol. I don’t see any possibility of Blake getting any closer to 1st. The only way I see it happening is either Melinda or Jordin get an early boot.

Here’s where the real separation starts.

Lakisha (everyone else better pack your bags) Jones, at 20/1 is a distant 4th. It is a long road to the finals and to start out like Lakisha did, it is even harder to stay there. Ask Ace Young and Anwar Robinson. I guess we could ask Lakisha. It says a lot about Melinda to stay on top this long.

Chris Richardson and Phil Stacey ring in at 66/1. I think without question one of or both could be leaving next Wednesday. If at least one doesn’t, it will be a major upset. I like them both and I know everyone thinks this season is boring but I think both of these guys will be making records after Idol.

I think it is clear that a Melinda/ Jordin final is evident. But it could get screwed up somehow. I am not dismissing that possibility. Chris Daughtry/Kat McPhee anyone? But Melinda and Jordin are really in a totally different league from everyone else this season. The only and far fetched possibility would be Blake sneaking in. When Chris and Phil are gone we all know where the bopper vote will go or at least most of it. Although Jordin does have a pretty good chunk of it now.

As “boring” as many on the net and everywhere else think this season is, if we do have a Melida/ Jordin final it will be the best final we have ever seen. It will make this season worth the wait. And not since season 2, will it not matter at all who wins. They will both have breakout success.

Is it Tuesday yet?

I think you are right on point in this article.  Jordan has made an impressive climb to the top, and I adore her.  Several weeks ago I thought that a Melinda/Blake finale was evident, but Jordan has changed all of that.  I'm a bit sad about it though...I must confess that I have it bad for Blake.  I am a 25-year-old married woman who is not accustomed to celebrity crushes, but I love this guy.  I have been watching is non-Idol music on YouTube, and most of it is fantastic.  Obviously I am biased, but I am rooting for a Jordan/Blake finale.  How entertaining would that be?!?

I don’t really understand what has happened with Lakisha.  She was great early on, but something has happened.  I’m not sure what it is.  Maybe she just doesn’t hold up as well on the larger stage with the band…I don’t know.  Any theories?  I would be fine seeing her go before Phil.  He has really improved in the last two weeks.

I hate when people say that this is the most boring season ever.  I love this crowd.  They sound great together.  The diversity in the group is wonderful.  Even the group dynamic is fun this year.  They are a great cast of characters and are very entertaining.
