Tonight I at least got a little excited.
One has to wonder where all the good guy singers are. While I am still waiting to be blown away at least tonight I was partially resuscitated. And I don’t know how long this will last but I was with J Lo more than the guys. Tonight we got to see some crap but at least it was weathered with some promising prospects.
They for some unknown reason start off with a terrible singer, 25 year old Phong Vu. And no, William Hung he isn’t. Take that however you want.
Followed by two more vocal breakdowns in 22 year old Cameron Dobbins and…..
18 year old LaMounte Hill. I looked down for a minute and when I looked back up I though this guy was actually a girl. A pretty one at that but don’t get any ideas.
Finally we get to enjoy the first really good singer of the night and for me of the competition to this point. I am no Country fan but 17 year old Skylar Laine was fabulous. I can see her in the top 12. She has just about everything needed to make it here. One of the things I liked better about X Factor is the audition process allowed the contestant to use music in the audition. It gave us a better idea of how they would sound. It also appeared to help them out with nerves. But when someone sings a capella they have to bring the musicality solely in their voice. Skylar really accomplished that. She showed the musicality of her voice and at only 17. She should be around a long time. I don’t think I’ll be jumping on her bandwagon but she will get some fans.
And I forgot to mention I am really tired of the back stories. In fact starting next week I will be fast forwarding through them so I won’t know who’s about to lose a store or who’s getting a divorce with three kids or who was born with handicaps. So that will no longer have an influence on me.
Next up is a girl I totally remember from season 6. I did not think it was that long ago. But I liked her then and really like her now. It’s 21 year old, Baylie Brown. She was good then but is really good now. I could see myself getting behind her. Although she has a bit a Country twang I think she can compete in the genres well. She has certainly matured. I see her in for a while this time.
Next is 28 year old Kristine Osorio. She did sing well but the tats just lose me.. Sorry. I’m not sure how long this journey will last. She might well have spent that loan money on the divorce lawyer instead of a ticket to the auditions.
The next three were not mind blowing but I did agree with J Lo on them. They were at least good enough for Hollywood. They are…..20 year old Rachel Turner….
23 year old Regan Wilson and……
17 year old Cheyenne James. Of the three I think Cheyenne had the best chance. I am sure she will return.
The next one I didn’t like at all but the guys put 24 year old Linda Williams through not listening to me or J Lo. In fact I think it’s kind of unbelievable.
Let the revolution begin. And let it begin and end with 26 year old mental case Alejandro Cazares. Even my tin eared wife could tell this guy sucked hard. Call security. Oh they did.
Our next lucky soul was 20 year old Cortez Shaw. He was all right but I don’t see him down for the struggle very long. He was average at best.
And now it’s time for some more subpar or even sub basement contestant. This was hideous and it was in the vinyl panted 28 year old Julie Shuman. NEXT!
Another 17 year old nightmare in the person of 18 year old Vanessa Hernandez does our eardrums no favors. …NEXT!
And I guess since the Pittsburgh Steelers are no longer in the playoffs it was permissible I guess to allow Troy Polumalu to try out for another gig. Oh wait that’s 19 year old Erin Kettl. I think Troy would have fared much better. NEXT!
Last but not least like last night we have a good night ender in the form of 28 year old Ramiro Garcia. Like him a lot. I think he can hang around for a while but I don’t see him in the top 12.
So there you have it. 54 got tickets to Hollywood. Even with the good girls put through tonight I am still not so jazzed. I’m still waiting. It might not get interesting until Hollywood. There was a guy from last night that sang Scotty Country and for my money was better and two more tongiht that tried to be Scotty 2.0 singing “Baby Lock Them Doors” and they really sucked. It’s going to be tough to top last season but the good thing is I am sure we will be seeing Haley and Pia really soon on the show.
Who dod you like best tonight? Vote.
Is it Wednesday yet?
Idolhead Ed.

Linda William’s audition was painful. Why would Idol show us how tin-eared Randy and Steven are? It wouldn’t seem in the show’s best interest to demonstrate their capricious judgements win over JLo’s obviously superior ear. It makes an Idol win or loss mean less when talented people are cast aside.
